Get that Bikini Brain
How was your weekend? As I write this, I am on a trip to Miami and Fort Lauderdale- a little work and a little fun.
Getting ready for this trip required me to think about how much skin I wanted to expose, and obvi I prepped with as much healthy habits as possible. And that got me thinking…
What about prepping for mental strength? What is the equivalent of the summer bod for that big-ass brain of ours?
Warm weather or not- I hear it all the time from friends, neighbors, clients, riders in my classes-- they are focusing on the outside-- how they look, how they appear, their title, their salary, their biceps and abs-- but they are forgetting about the one muscle that they need to train… their brain.
Your mental strength “routine” needs even more awareness, planning and intentionality, than any other hot bod or hot business plan, because any action made without belief won’t sustain the tough stuff— the obstacles, the setbacks.
Anything you want to change- be it your tush or your title, will be so much more sustainable if you incorporate your brain into your "workouts" and this is done by a thinking plan.
The thinking plan is a mental routine where you drive awareness to and "work out" your thoughts so that they empower the results you want. What does this workout (aka thinking plan) entail?
First- start with what it is you want to change or where you want continued growth.
Next, identify what you are telling yourself in relation to this area.
Get it out on paper and look for the general consensus of what you are telling yourself and hence believing.
Then evaluate what you tell yourself.
A way I like to do this, is if I said what I said to myself to a loved one or to a client, would they want to flick me off or keep working? Also ask yourself is it 100% without a doubt true…usually it is a story or an opinion that you accept as fact.
If what you are saying is leaving you on the couch, in competitive energy, unmotivated or waiting for the next Monday or month or year to really show up, then you don't need another physical workout, or to work more, or buy another book, or to try harder-- you need a belief plan that trains your thinking into one that aligns to the results you want.
Choose a simple sentence that you believe that gets you one step stronger.
It's like when you choose a weight in the gym and you first start lifting- maybe you start with 10’s for biceps, but then you do 12 reps and it's easy, so you go up to 12.5 and you're like wow! But you start with a few good reps, then your 12’s turn to 15’s gradually and then you're suddnly that meathead in the gym!
You get the point. You don't go from "I suck at this" to "I am a number one stunner" overnight-- just like you wouldn't go from a 5 lb. weight to a 15 lb. weight overnight and have great form and good reps. So give yourself time to believe the new line of thinking.
If, for example, you are telling yourself you suck-- perhaps evolving to “Even though this is hard for me, I am going to show up every day.”
When you get to a new line of thinking-- and that is all you need --one sentence that you believe that builds into a more positive state, then that thought is your plan.
You put in reps on that better thought.
You say it to yourself on your walks. You write it in your journal. You put it in your phone. You breathe it like you do air. You meet with it like you do your trainer, your boss, your dentist, your kid, your lash artist. It’s your tramp stamp on your brain.
And then when the thought is rooted, and you will know when it is, because it will be as easy to believe as lifting that 10 lb weight for 12 reps, then you move onto the next level of thinking that inspires your change. Same process, new thought!
Remember, hotty, in order to grow in any area of your life-- health, wealth, relationships-- you need to start with the most important muscle that calls the shot and work it out daily (save the core training for twice a week).
Damn, that brain of yours is hot!
