Common Errors that Erode Your Progress
It is May.
Which means it is basically June, which means before you know it you will be half-way through the year.
And because I want my habit of catastrophizing to produce something good for everyone, and I know you want to come out of 2024 in a state of badassery, I will share 5 common errors that prevent you from having what you want so you can nip that sneaky shit in the bud.
Here they are:
You don't do anything and fail ahead of time.
The truth: If you really try you are a completely different person, regardless of the outcome. Trying for years creates a different person because you're consistent whether you achieve it or not. So try it! You will grow from trying.
You let doubt win.
The truth: The only thing true is what you believe to be true. You believe you can't do it and then you create evidence to prove doubt true. Doubting Thomas belongs in the bible, not your business. So realize doubt will exist, and choose something more powerful to believe in-- your own possibilities!
Your try is half-ass.
The truth: Consistency wins over intensity. But make sure the consistent action creates progress versus motion. I love baby steps and I am a huge proponent of them when you are scared AF to do something, but after 5 baby steps, take 10, and then take 15 and then buy that baby some running shoes and start to jog. And then take that baby to the starting line of that race and buy her a chocolate milk when she's done.
You work really hard and you get lackluster results and then that is the end of the story.
The truth: You can challenge the plan. You can challenge the timeline. You can challenge the action. Don't challenge the goal. Challenge your impatience. Keep trying until it works. Keep showing up and keep failing so you keep learning. You didn't give up on potty training your child or puppy because it didn't work the first-time. Your big ass dreams deserve the same determination.
You think change comes from action alone.
The truth: The actions are what we always focus on when we are trying to change, and that is because they are the easiest thing to prove (I bought this, I ran this many miles, I read these pages, I ate 1500 calories, I didn't drink for 30 days, I called 400 people).
But after a while, if you don't start thinking into a new version of yourself, and backing those actions with a different version of yourself, you will not sustain the momentum you created with your actions alone. This is why diets don't work and dry January turns into soaked with seltzers Spring.
So yes, actions get you results at first. But they won't sustain the change if you don't start thinking like the person who wants to do these actions because it is aligned with who you are.
So frands, remember, what you seek in your soul is seeking you. Treat these errors as obstacles and plan for them, and then get on with your goals. The world needs your wins.
